Area 7 Formation

Postby herpchat » Thu Jul 18, 2013 1:36 am

The IBC Executive and Judging Boards are reviewing the standards and judging across the IBC. While looking at Area 6, we determined that there were several logistical and practical problems between Australia and New Zealand and the rest of Area 6 - namely their shipping quarantine regulations, the climate differences between seasons of the hemispheres, a huge cost issue in traveling, a difference in what types of fish are kept and bred, and other issues.

The IBC Executive and Judging Boards are currently working with the representatives of the proposed new Area 7 to develop a class listing and area regulations that will be for their region. Details will be announced in the upcoming Flare! and will be posted at the end of the month.

It was determined that we should do a feasibility study to see if there was a possibility of splitting Area 6 into Areas 6 and 7. Area 6 would remain mainly intact with Area 7 splitting off Australia and New Zealand. We've been researching the options, and the feasibility study agreed that such a split was logical, based on the above reasons. Making a separate Area 7 would promote continued growth and a focus of the bettas and communities in both the original Area 6 and the new Area 7, Australia/New Zealand.

We want to reassure everybody that the split between the regions does not prohibit shipping or travel to the different IBC Shows - it just expands the scope of where you can now send fish and enter them. Just as Area 6 breeders can enter Area 1 and Area 2 shows, they can also continue to send to Area 7, using the Area 7 class lists. We also are continuing to work with Area 6 on development of IBC Shows there, and will be actively discussing ways with representatives to develop and encourage participation in local shows within the regions. Our goal is to promote bettas and betta showing in all areas of the world, and it is greatly encouraging to see the growth of bettas in these areas

Thank you for your understand and patience while we make this transition.
